InventoryElaborate a representative inventory of the particular needs and state of affairs in the member countries concerning SDC. SDC is a field that is constant change. New techniques are becoming available and ask for new reactions with respect to SDC. Whether it is the increased knowledge and computing power of the possible intruders, that keeps us alert or the new techniques to disseminate data. Here we can think of the new options the Internet offers an NSI to publish larger and larger size tables, but also the possibilities to explore a controlled access to the microdata to bona-file researchers who want to use the valuable NSI-databases for serious research. The situation 5 or 10 years ago is no longer the situation nowadays. Also it is to be expected that several new EU-member states have made a major step forward. This asks for a new inventory of the current situation. We plan to organise a compact survey to be send to all 25 EU member states to get a broad overview of the situation of SDC in the EU-countries. If the results require it, we will investigate the situation in a restricted number of countries more in depths by contacting them again and if necessary visit these countries. Alternatively this travel budget could be used to have to the possibility of a visit by one or two countries in need of assistance on SDC to one of the leading NSI’s in Europe (CBS, DeStatis.) A positive side effect of this survey will be we can establish a (mailing)-list of SDC-specialists in hopefully all 25 member countries in Europe. Through this list we can more easily communicate between the SDC-specialists in all member countries. Outcome: A report describing the SDC-state of affairs in Europe The report is available here Partners: CBS, DeStatis, ONS, URV |
